CHUMS
stands
for Children's Hope for Understanding Multiple
Sclerosis. CHUMS is a national nonprofit organziation
designed to enhance awareness and comprehension levels of children
whose lives are affected by MS.
Those who
are diagnosed with MS will immediately find a host of information,
resources, and support services available to them. The children
of those diagnosed however, are usually the forgotton victims
of the disease.
If you have
been diagnosed
with
MS, you have probably already experienced a wide range of emotions
from disbelief, to anger, to sorrow, to fear. CHUMS believes
that your children, whether you have told them about your MS or
not, know that something is not right and are experiencing those
same emotions.
CHUMS
encourages you to talk to your children about the disease and
provides you some simple, practical ways to do so without intimidating
or frightening them.
