The mission
of CHUMS is to give children, whose lives are affected
by MS, the hope, resources, knowledge, support, and skills to
effectively cope with multiple sclerosis as a component of their
life.

Children's
Hope for Understanding Multiple Sclerosis
is
the only nonprofit organziation in the United States focused on
providing children, whose lives are affected by MS, a foundation
of understanding about the disease.
HISTORY
CHUMS
was founded and developed in July of 1993 by Sue Rehmus at the
age of 22.
CHUMS
was inspired by, and is a direct tribute
to her father, who had multiple
sclerosis for 27 years.
Sue recognized
the need to help children understand and cope with MS as it affected
their lives.
Recognizing
the worthwhile efforts of CHUMS, former Michigan Governor
John Engler and State Representive Michael Goshka presented Sue
with a prestigous Legislative Tribute
in
December of 1993.
CHUMS
received its Federal Non-Profit Tax Exempt status in September
2003.
CHUMS
maintains that in order to give Children
Hope
for Understanding Multiple Sclerosis, the
adult(s) in the child's life must understand how to talk about
it.
This site
is designed for you so that you may begin some meaningful, age-appropriate
conversations about MS with your child/children.
This
organization is committed to giving our

Sclerosis.
